My friend and I used their new coupon yesterday.  We both ordered a crabcake meal with two sides.  I very picky when it comes to crabcakes.  I am from Maryland and enjoy fresh blue crabs every chance I get in the summer!  I know my crabs!!!   

The crabcake meal (1 crabcake and two sides) was priced at only $12.99.  The waitress recommended it, so we went for it.  We were pleasantly surprised!  The crabcakes had chunks of crab meat in them and were served with a spicy remoulade sauce.  Our baked potatoes were fresh and the broccoli was perfectly seasoned.  Now, I don't want to mislead you... they did contain some bread filling, but this was the best crabcake meal that I have ever had for $12.99.  The above coupon makes this an even better deal.  Both of us enjoyed a great lunch for a total of  $14.99 + tax!  This coupon expires on March 2, 2010.  Click here to print your coupon.

Target's Coupon Policy - You might want to print it and carry it with you!

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Target!  Really, I am in Target at least 2-3 times a week (sometimes 4!... okay, I think my record is 5 times in one week!).  Ask my friends and family!  The fact that we have 3 Target stores within a 15 mile radius of my home adds to this.  If one store does not have it, another does.  To top it off, the clearance deals are different at each store.  Target's clearance deals rock!  The 90% off deals are my favorite!  Where else can you get brand new items for 90% and stack a coupon on top of that great deal?  FYI: Their Valentine's decorations and candy were 75% a few days ago.  They should have reached 90% off by now. 

Alright, back to the point of this post.  I was in Target a few days ago and I witnessed a Target cashier and then manager turn away a guest's manufacturer coupons that she had printed off of the Internet.  I realized that I was going to run into the same problem as my cashier listened in on their conversation.  I checked my coupons and was surprised to find that I was not using any Internet coupons.  So, I was safe, right?  Wrong... I was using a coupon that had been mailed to me by Nabisco with distinct marks on the front and back of the paper, similar to a check paper.  My cashier showed the manager my coupon and she took it to back.  It was accepted after a bit of reluctance.  Now I was concerned about the other guest was not able to use her coupons.  We were both told that Target is no longer accepting "Internet" coupons.  When did this start?  We were told that this policy started about a month ago.  This was news to me.  A month?  I think I would have heard about this by now.

The manager on duty was very open to my feedback.  I told her that I would send her a copy of Target's coupon policy, so she gave me her e-mail address.  She said that she would print it and give it to her manager in the morning.  I came home and checked Target's coupon policy on their website and it still stated that they gladly accept valid Internet coupons. I should carry a copy with me at all times.  On the other hand, it seems trivial for me to have to carry a store's policy to their establishment for their own reference.  I have contacted Target's guest relations department.  I will keep you updated on their response.  Fortunately, this is the first time that I have run into this problem at a Target store before. My couponing experiences at Target in the past have been great. They could serve as model couponing experiences for other retail stores.

I encourage Target's corporate office to keep their employees and guests informed on their latest coupon policies.  Even more so, considering that they are leading the way in electronic store coupons.  That's right, you can receive coupons on the screen of your phone and have your cashier scan them from your phone as you check out in your local store.  Technology that changes the way we shop is being developed and disseminated at an accelerated rate due to the Internet and social media.  I hope that retailers will not overlook keeping their employees (at physically located stores) in-the-know during this revolutionary time.  Click here for details on their new mobile coupons that are available for guests with a smart phone, iPhone, iTouch or Blackberry.  

Also, you may not be aware that Target "price matches".  Bring in an original copy and current copy of a local competitor’s ad containing an identical item, brand name, quantity and model number and Target will match that competitor's price.  If you get home, open up your local competitor's ad and realize that you have missed a "price match" opportunity.  Take that ad to Target within seven days of the purchase with your Target receipt and the competitor’s current and original ad.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

We were warned days ahead about the blizzard that headed to Maryland on Friday.  We scurried around at the last minute to stock our refrigerator shelves!  The warm weather on Friday bought us a few extra hours as it prevented the snow from sticking to the road.  On Friday evening the snow began to stick.  Even as I took this picture on Friday night, it was hard to believe that we could get up to 36" inches.  We have not had a storm like this in years.


This is what it looked like when I went to sleep on Friday night (pictured to the left) and this is what it looked like when I woke up on Saturday morning (pictured to the right).  It continued to snow throughout the day until we topped off at just over 2 feet of snow.  The kids had a great time playing in the snow as my husband and I shoveled our driveway.

We were tuned in to the news for endless hours as we awaited the storm the night before.  Our local Fox 5 DC new channel caught our attention when they began broadcasting live streams of video from viewers in the DC Metro area.  This was made possible through a FREE program offered by Ustream.tv.  I logged on in the morning, created a FREE account and put the camera on my husband as he shoveled away!  Once you have setup a show in a few clicks, you are given a URL to share with your friends and family.  I sent my URL to Fox 5 and received a call from them in less than a minute.  Within about 5 minutes they were broadcasting my live video feed as I spoke with them on air over the phone.  I still have my camera and live feed setup, but it is 10:30pm and there is not much going on in front of my house!  If you want to tune in, visit my live  feed at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/2010-blizzard-with-savingqueen-com-in-maryland.  If you have a webcam, I encourage you to try it out.  There was a wedding being streamed live earlier today.  Now, we are watching as the space shuttle prepares for take off at 4:30am EST on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/spacevidcast
