If you live in DC Metro area or you are willing to travel, I highly recommend taking your family to see Gaylord National's ICE! featuring "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". This is a one-of-a-kind experience. They have brought to life the 1957 Dr. Seuss classic tale. Gaylord National's ICE! features scenes straight out of the pages of the original storybook, all sculpted from TWO-MILLION pounds of ice into full-color with amazing detail.
The indoor walk-through attraction brilliantly showcases how the “Who-ville-hating” Grinch learns the true meaning of Christmas. Some of the sculptures are made of colored ice blocks and others are illuminated internally by some of the exhibit's 1,400 specially designed LED tube lights. 5,000 ice blocks, weighing 400 pounds each (before being hand-carved), were transformed into this winter wonderland by 40 master ice carvers of Harbin, China. You will be amazed as you walk out of one scene and into the next. The kids and I enjoyed going down each of the 4 slides a countless number of times! Grandmom even took a few rides down the slide! Yes, she did! I have a picture in the video below. It is a chilling 9 degrees inside of the attraction, so be sure to dress warm. Gloves are a must, if you want to be comfortable.
Here is video footage and photos from our trip to Gaylord National's ICE! along with one of my favorite holiday songs, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch":

While this discount is only offered weekdays, ICE! is open from Noon to 7pm (for the December discount dates) and 10am to 9pm (for the January discount dates), so it’s a wonderful after-school/after-work option. Weekdays are also the BEST time to visit ICE! because the lines are short and you can enjoy everything without the big crowds that are common on the weekends. We arrived around 6:00pm on Monday. It was great, because we did not have to wait in line and the exhibit was not crowded at all.
There are many dining choices and fun things to do at Gaylord National. We ended up eating at National Pastime Bar & Grill, which is located inside of Gaylord National. The kids enjoyed watching Monday night football on the 30-foot video wall. It worked out great, because it gave us a chance see the 60-foot glass Tree of Light, dancing fountain, indoor snowfall and even Santa (all featured in the video above)! The indoor snowfall occurs every night at 6:15pm & 9:15pm in the atrium.
